Wow, I remember saying I’d keep this blogging thing up…failed…Anywho, just got my housing assignments yesterday. I got a single in an all freshman dorm: John Jay. It was my 3rd choice so I wasn’t too excited at first but I’m starting to warm up to the idea. Privacy, down time will be nice. I wanted a roommate but ultimately I think everything worked out for the best. Even though it’s only a 103 sq. ft. room (closet much? guess I didn’t expect much more though seeing as how it’s Manhattan) I don’t have to worry about bother/being bothered by someone. AND, I know I’m going to have people over a lot so I’ll get a nice comfy futon and won’t have to ask my roomie’s permission if I want some peeps over. My friend Tony lives on the floor above me which is nice. My other friend, Serena, her sister had told me that all the social rejects were in JJ and the happenin’ kewl kids were in Carman but I realized a LOT of the people that are in JJ are apparently Carman rejects like me so I guess it really doesn’t make a difference anymore. Anyways, yeah, wow, we’re really doing this college thing. It’s starting to sink in more. Can’t believe i only have 5 more weeks until a jet off to New York. I think I’ve gotten over the fear part honestly and now, I’m just excited :).

That’s my floor plan. I’m in 904.

So I went to EDC (Electric Daisy Carnival) on Saturday…and IT WAS EPIC. I saw oodles of my favorite artists: Major Lazer (Switch + Diplo), Kaskade, Benny Benassi, and Diplo. M.I.A. made a cameo during Diplo’s set which was INCREDIBLE, and I even found a great new artist named James Zabiela. God what a night. We got all decked out for the shows and went nuts. And I went with such a good crew! Leah, Kelly, Ben, Lauren, Phoebe, Henry and Chelsea and we all met up with Eli, Matt, David, and Daniel. Twas fantastic. I can’t wait until Hard Summer, Electric Zoo Carnival, and Hard NYC. Start college off with a bang.
What.
A.
Day.
Honestly, I haven’t felt this exhausted from a day of festivities in a while. Ben, Angela and Sarah came over to watch the Brazil v. South Africa game today (Brazil won but SA put up quite a fight); we watched the first half at my house and then the second while dining in an awesome Argentinian cafe near my house on their big screen! Twas great.
Afterwards, Kelly and Leah came over so we could head on over to MOCA and Sarah left. It took us FOREVER to get downtown and then even LONGER to find parking.

So we went to the Yogiland near there to kill some time so we could make the after 4pm $6 flat rate in some lot. I spilled my yogurt and crap all over the floor (THE MOST UPSETTING), Michael Jackson died (EVEN MORE UPSETTING) and to top it off, we couldn’t find the lot we were going to park in so we parked at a meter place that charged $1 per 15 min and had a 2 hour maximum. After putting $4 into the machine and running to the ticket booth at MOCA, the dude told us we could park at the Disney Concert Hall for a flat $8…and that after 5pm on Thursdays, entrance into the museum was free.

SO we ran back to the car, but this is when our day started looking up. When we got to the Disney Concert Hall parking lot, the dude was Ethiopian (because they ALWAYS work at parking things for some reason) and he let us in for free! Then by the time we got to the ticket booth, it was 5 so we also got into the museum for free! We hung out, took some pictures, went to the gift shop where I got some coooool thangs: 2 pins that say “Thug Life” and “Let’s Get Drunk” and a very nice postcard.

On our way home we stopped at Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles which was DIVINE.

What a wholesome, good day of fun.
Thanks buddies.
Ok, so I went to the Columbia Summer Advising Session for admitted students tonight…BIGGEST WASTE OF TIME. We proceeded to go through every requirement in The Core, IN FULL DETAIL. Why can’t these children go and do a little research?
I finally got some one on one time with an Advisory Dean which was nice (although she was cray cray…from Seattle, barely comes to L.A., one of those nutters that coops up all Californians into one group and thinks all we do is sip Mimosas, get tans/massages, and mosey on the beach…) ANYWHO. She was pretty helpful I guess. I really like how we don’t have to register for classes until after orientation and after you meet up with your advisor. They’re pretty nice to freshies.
They gave us the Iliad at the end of the session. Apparently we’re supposed to read it before we get there in September. Too bad I’VE ALREADY READ IT (didn’t take lit but did read it on my own time and in 8th grade at my old school) ALSO, I translated the Trojan PoV aka the Aeneid, from Latin into English and also read the entire Aeneid in english. I’m feeling a major skim session on this piece of ancient literature seeing as how I could now probably recount every major event from when Helen got jiggy with Paris for the first time to when the little pansy shot Achilles in his ticklish spot.
(I’m ticklish on my foot-especially the heel- too Pelides)
I can’t believe they beat Spain, easily one of the best teams in the world…Not to worry though. Brazil will DESTROY them. It will be merciless, and unlike some stupid Egyptian and Spanish side, the Brazillian team will make sure they win.
I just came back from The Landmark where I saw UP. Good god, Pixar is just SO incredible. I cried at least four times: from laughter, sadness. Honestly, even though these movies are animated, they are are not made to just entertain children. It’s amazing how Pixar can create something that both children and adults can identify with. They’re geniuses, pure geniuses. It had probably one of the best montages ever made too. Power to Pixar. You did it again. Bravo.
PS: If you want to go see it, you HAVE to see it in 3D. It was completely worth the $15.
Oh modern art…
What a day of good, wholesome fun! Today, Lauren, Angela, Benny, Sarah and I went to LACMA and saw some collections. I brought my camera (with my new lens) and we explored a bit. I believe we’re going to MOCA on Thursday, so that will be nice. I’m digging this new museum binge.
I can’t believe it. You know how before I was talking about how the US would never in a million years advance to the knockout stages in the Confederations Cup because the odds were stacked against them? Well they did…HOW YOU SAY? I’m still reeling from the shock of Egypt’s loss to America 3:0. 3 TO 0! Egypt, having almost beat Brazil 4:3 after a last minute penalty set them back and having beat the reigning world champs Italy, LOST to the United States of America, usually considered to be a joke in the footballing world. Now, I will stand by the Pharaohs and defend them because their best player Zidan was not present do to a previous injury and their 3 substitutions allowed in a soccer match were all used up to take out other inured players. On the other hand, they were using a stupid tactic: banking on the fact that goal differential would pull them through…and that came back to bite them in the ass. As long as Egypt didn’t lose by more than 2 goals, they were safe with a Brazil 3:0 victory over Italy (which they accomplished effortlessly). But America pulled ahead by 3 goals and left Egypt eating their dust. Who’s to blame? Everyone. Players for their nonchalance, the manager for his poor judgement. They screwed themselves over. Whatever, who ever advanced would have lost anyways because they would have to play Spain, probably the best team in the world right now, although I’m pretty sure Egypt would have been able to handle them a bit better than the United States.
I did, however, gain something today: I made new friends! I have Egyptian neighbors and for the past week, I’ve been hearing them shouting and cheering during the Egypt games and talking to them about the results. Well, today, I decided to knock on their door and ask them if I could watch the game with them (a match is always better when there are more people watching it with you) and they said yes! Even though our team lost I think we had a pretty good time together, and I think I’ve found a solid soccer crew to yell and shout with me for the rest of this cup.
So, yesterday was my 18th birthday. I had an incredible time and I thank my friends for that. My friend Leah graciously gave up her house to throw a little shindig for me; most of my closest friends were able to make it. People brought cake, gifts, and we had an intense few rounds of Taboo. Some had previous dinner engagements so left for a bit but I went shopping with a few of my buds to kill some time until we reunited at the Ultrazone in Sherman Oaks where we engaged in some epic battles. Our team won the first round and came in second in the next one but Chelsea aka “Shockwave” got #1 in the second game so we were pleased with our performance in general. Not going to lie though, those little brats are so damn annoying but I would never yell at them, or scream at them to get out of our base, or rub it in their face when I shot them continuously…never. And to top of the night, we hit up the Yogurtland on Addison and Van Nuys, which still has Nilla Wafer! (the Sawtelle and Olympic one doesn’t have it anymore…) and feasted on our favorite desert. Leah had her birthday party last week where LaurBails and I had given her a total of $50 in Yogurtland gift cards and last night, exactly 1 WEEK later…she had to pay an extra 73 cents becasue she had finished the money on her cards…epic lolz.
